Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson
Bjørnstjerne Martinius Bjørnson (1832–1910)
Norwegian author. One of “The Four Greats” in Norwegian literature. Protested against Munch receiving the Government stipend for artists for the third time in a row with the newspaper article “Kunstnerstipendierne paa Afveje” in Dagbladet 16.12.1891. The newspaper article spurred a debate involving a number of participants, among other things with a response from Munch himself. Had his portrait painted by Munch.
